Profile
The St Ives Civic Society was formed in 1968 to fight the proposed plans to route the St Ives Bypass down Ramsey Road, across the Waits and Ingle Holt Island and then across the river to Hemingford Meadow. The siting of the St Ives bypass as it is today is as a result of our early campaigns. We influence the town’s evolution, promoting it as a great place to live and visit, through our events and activities. We engage with our members and local government to promote high standards of planning and architecture for the future as well as conserving the best from the past of St Ives and the surrounding area.
Our membership continues to grow and presently stands at just over 400 households (over 600 individuals). St Ives Civic Society welcomes new members, please join us to help preserve and enhance our beautiful town.
There are a variety of ways you can support the Society by becoming a volunteer, amateur historian, speaker, or presenter, joining one of our focus groups, becoming a Trustee or nominating a building for a black plaque, contact membership@stivescivic.org.uk or chair@stivescivic.org.uk
