Profile
Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is inviting residents to take part in a community tree planting event in St Ives on 26 November 2025, from 12pm to 3pm, to celebrate National Tree Week.
The event will take place at Wheatfields Playing Field, next to the play park, where volunteers will help plant new trees and wildflowers. The planting will support local biodiversity and enhance this much-loved open space for the community.
Volunteers of all abilities are welcome to join. Those keen to get stuck in can help with digging and planting, while others can lend a hand by tying trees, tidying up the area, or sowing wildflower seeds.
Executive Councillor for Parks and Countryside, Waste and Street Scene, Cllr Julie Kerr, said: โNational Tree Week is a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together and make a lasting, visible difference to their local environment. Every tree planted helps us create greener, healthier spaces for wildlife and residents alike.
โWeโre expecting a great turnout and want to make sure everyone can get involved in some way โ whether planting, tidying, or sowing wildflowers. Itโs a great community effort, and we look forward to seeing everyone there!โ
For health and safety reasons, the event is not recommended for young children due to the size of the trees and stakes. However, families are welcome, and children can take part in activities such as wildflower sowing or helping with small digging tasks under supervision.
